I RAISE MY VOICE
This series was born out of urgency—a direct response to the ongoing denigration of women in today’s society. Across millennia, women have been silenced, confined, subjugated, and denied their rights, yet their resilience has always found ways to break through. In quiet acts of defiance, in voices raised in protest, and in the unwavering insistence on change, women continue to push forward. During my years as a Nurse Practitioner in women’s health, I witnessed this strength and courage every day, and I recognize it still—in the news, at town halls, in marches, and in the daily lives of women who refuse to be diminished. These reminders affirm for me that injustice is never permanent, and that every act of resistance, however small, matters.
Currently, my artistic practice which I describe as Photographic Digital Fine Art, extends the tradition of collage and mixed media into the digital realm. I layer photographs, textures, and text, creating compositions that carry both personal resonance and broader cultural commentary.
I hold a master’s degree in nursing and spent much of my career as a nurse practitioner in women’s health. Following my retirement,I pursued my artistic practice more fully, studying in an extended mentorship with Alison Shaw on Martha’s Vineyard.Later I deepened my exploration of narrative photography through the teachings of Brooke Shaden, which further shaped my interest in compositional storytelling.
